A whole new generation of Star Wars fans will enjoy learning more about their favorite characters in these punchy short animations!
Star Wars fans have a new animated series to tide them over during summer 2017 thanks to Star Wars: Forces of Destiny, created by Disney and Lucasfilm Animation. As Kathleen Kennedy, President of Lucasfilm, explains in an interview, “For many years, something that’s been really important to Star Wars is these characters that little kids can grow up and recognize a little bit of themselves.”
You can follow the series on Disney’s YouTube channel! Each episode is only two to three minutes in length and pinpoints small moments within the Star Wars universe. The introductory voiceover for each episode declares: “The choices we make, the actions we take, moments, both big and small, shape us into Forces of Destiny.” Which small moments will turn out to be definitive turning points for our heroes?
Forces of Destiny episodes are almost like extra deleted scenes from the films, showing snippets of action and adventure starring fan-favorite characters like Leia and Rey. Also cool? You’ll recognize many of the characters’ voices, since they belong to the original actors: Daisy Ridley, Felicity Jones, Lupita Nyong’o, Ashley Eckstein, and Tiya Sircar are all participating!
Episodes 1 and 2 show Rey and BB-8’s time on Jakku, as they deftly evade dangers like a Nightwatcher Worm and a group of bandits. Episode 3 features Leia and the Ewoks taking on Imperial Stormtroopers. Episode 4, which just came out on July 6, stars Ahsoka Tano who, though running late to a Jedi ceremony, stops to save the day on her way.
What’s next? Episodes featuring Jyn Erso (Rogue One) and Sabine Wren (Star Wars Rebels) are also expected! Additional episodes will air on the Disney channel this fall. Fans can also enjoy a new Hasbro line of 11-inch “Adventure Figures” based on these characters. For fans both old and new, Star Wars: Forces of Destiny makes a fun addition to the Star Wars world, whether it’s offering further insight into your beloved characters or introducing you (or your kids) to them for the first time.
